Every Minecraft Java Edition biome defines its own temperature, downfall, sky color, water color, grass tint, and mob spawn table. This browser pulls those values straight from the game registry, so every number matches what the game uses during world generation.
The biome browser above lets you search and inspect every biome in the game. Click any biome card to see its full spawn table, color values, and climate data. Whether you are scouting for a
mushroom fields base (the only Overworld biome that blocks hostile surface spawns) or looking up the exact water color hex value for a build palette, this tool has you covered.
Biome data is extracted from the Java Edition game registry across three dimensions: the
Overworld, the
Nether, and the
End.
/locate biome commands in-game.Every Minecraft biome is defined by several key properties that control weather, visuals, and mob behavior. Here is what each property means:
| Property | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| Temperature | Whether precipitation falls as rain or snow. Below 0.15 produces snowfall and ice on water. Also shifts grass and foliage tints, from yellow-brown in warm biomes to blue-green in cold ones. |
| Downfall | Intensity of precipitation and how saturated grass and foliage look. A value of 0 (Deserts, Badlands) means no rain. Higher values like 0.9 (Jungle) produce heavy rain and deep green foliage. |
| Mob Spawn Tables | Weighted spawn lists for categories like creature, monster, ambient, and water_creature. A mob with weight 100 spawns 10 times more often than one with weight 10 in the same category. |
| Color Values | Hex colors for sky and water, plus optional grass and foliage overrides. Swamp uses #617B64 water for its murky look, while Warm Ocean uses #43D5EE for bright turquoise. |
Farm planning: Check mob spawn tables to find biomes that spawn specific mobs. Mushroom Fields is the safest Overworld biome for builds because hostile mobs cannot spawn on the surface, where only Mooshrooms appear as creatures.
Build palette matching: Use the color swatches to match block choices to biome-specific grass and foliage colors. Building in a Birch Forest? The grass color there differs from Plains, and knowing the exact hex value helps you pick complementary blocks.
Data pack creation: If you are writing custom biomes for a data pack, use this browser as a reference for vanilla values. Copy temperature, downfall, and spawn table structures as starting points for your custom biome JSON.
Speedrun routing: Knowing which biomes spawn which structures matters for routing. Villages only appear in Plains, Desert, Savanna, Taiga, and Snowy Plains biomes, and this browser lets you verify biome relationships at a glance.
Minecraft Java Edition has dozens of biomes spread across three dimensions: Overworld biomes, 5 Nether biomes (Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valley, Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, and Basalt Deltas), and 5 End biomes (The End, End Barrens, End Highlands, End Midlands, and Small End Islands). The browser above lists the exact count for your selected game version.
Biome temperature controls whether precipitation falls as rain or snow. Biomes with a temperature below 0.15 produce snow and ice instead of rain. Temperature also influences grass and foliage color tints, making warm biomes appear yellow-green and cold biomes appear blue-green. It does not affect mob spawning directly.
Use the /locate biome command followed by the biome ID. For example, /locate biome minecraft:cherry_grove will point you toward the nearest Cherry Grove biome. This command is available in Java Edition and requires cheats to be enabled.
Lush Caves stands out with Axolotls as a unique spawn. Mushroom Fields is the only Overworld biome where hostile mobs do not naturally spawn on the surface. The Nether biomes have unique spawn lists: Crimson Forest spawns Hoglins and Piglins, while Warped Forest spawns Endermen at very high rates.
