Map Info

Unfortunately, this might be a confusing introduction. About a decade ago I started working on a ridiculous, beautiful, monster of a survival map called Sphere, I worked on the thing for three years like it was my part time job. It's still one of my proudest creations.

I totally abandoned it, I was going through a lot of stress, when everything had settled I'd moved on to other things. Minecraft has moved on, I regret not continuing it in some form. That being said, my 16 year old autistic a** blessed the world with this.

It was a struggle to get the clunky old thing working again but it was a delight going through the nostalgia. I couldn't help dust some things off and made an update.

I hate to let good work go to waste, and I am a special kind of pandemic bored. Here it is, never finished, current as of now.

+1 0x_12 Hey Scavanna,
I'm not sure if you will see this, but fate is weird and you may get something out of reading it.
I first played your map in 2015, and was absolutely stunned. It was the first time I had seen so much depth implemented in such a broad scale. I cannot imagine how many hours went into building it, and especially into adding the finesse seemingly everywhere in the world. Special commends for the starting area full of tricks, the railroad under the desert, the inverted village, the optional wither encounters, the parkour over the Sphere, the tripwire traps, and hundreds of memorable (and sometimes unforgiving) encounters. Even after having spent an unholy amount of playtime in this, you still keep surprising me somehow.

I've probably spent as many hours on Sphere as I have spent on Minecraft as a whole. This map has more substance and replay value than some standalone triple-A titles, and many of the kids that get their hands on it may fail to notice. I downloaded it back in the PMC days, and I couldn't believe how little attention it got compared to much more low-effort maps that went mainstream. I spent many, many hours custom-fitting it for team vs team multiplayer on a server, with team A starting on the fortress of the highest sky island and Team B on the destroyed dome under the Sphere (last picture on imgur). With enderpearls off, my idea was that apart from dealing with the world's hazards and exploring, the players would end up being funneled through the Sphere, forcing conflict and PvP inside it. By the time I was done preparing the map, university and adult responsibilitie s caught on, and my friends and I outgrew minecraft. In any case, I saved the multiplayer map, especially given that your PMC download link stopped working, as I felt Sphere was too good to vanish without a trace. Today, I looked up "Sphere by Scavanna" just for nostalgia purposes, and it made me very happy to know that you're back on board.

If you're like me when working on creative projects, you probably know you made something decently good, but it's probably hard to tell how good it actually is. Let me tell you that it's really, really good. It is light years better than any survival/advent ure minecraft map I have been able to get my hands on in the last 6 years. It is, uncontested, the best custom minecraft map I have ever played by far, it rivals vanilla-core survival in terms of originality and "soul". It absolutely has the potential to gain a cult following among the right kind of people. Even if it never gets the recognition it deserves in the current minecraft crowd, at least know that it kicks ass and someone, somewhere enjoyed the sh*t out of it over the years.

Godspeed autist, blogpost over

+13 Nacho_Man2323 I've played this map for a bit, and I have found chests that look as if they have been used before. eg a double chest that looks like somebody's storage chest (coords r x616 y71 z471). Is there any reasoning to that?
