/give @p minecraft:ominous_bottle[ominous_bottle_amplifier=0]How it works: Drinking an ominous bottle applies the Bad Omen effect. When you enter a village with Bad Omen, a raid starts. When you enter a trial chamber, it triggers an ominous trial. Higher levels increase raid difficulty.
Build /give commands for ominous bottles at any amplifier level from I to V. Drinking the bottle applies Bad Omen, which triggers raids in villages and ominous events in Trial Chambers. Set the level and target, then paste the command straight into Java Edition.
The ominous bottle was added in Minecraft 1.21 (Tricky Trials) as part of the reworked Bad Omen system. Previously, Bad Omen came from killing raid captains. Now it is an item you can carry and use on purpose. Drinking the bottle gives Bad Omen for 1 hour and 40 minutes (100 minutes, or 120,000 ticks).
In survival, ominous bottles only come from ominous vaults in Trial Chambers. With commands you can produce them on demand at any amplifier level, which is handy for testing raids or Trial Chamber mechanics without hunting for raid captains or vaults.
1. Set the amplifier. Choose a level from I (weakest) to V (strongest). This determines the Bad Omen potency stored on the bottle.
2. Set the target. Choose who receives the bottle, or enter a custom player name.
3. Copy the command. The output updates live. Paste it into your game, then right-click the bottle to drink it and receive Bad Omen.
Bad Omen does nothing on its own. It only triggers an event when you reach a specific location:
| Trigger Location | Effect | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Village | Triggers a raid | Bad Omen converts to Raid Omen. A multi-wave attack by illagers begins on the village. |
| Trial Chamber | Ominous trial | Bad Omen converts to Trial Omen. Trial spawners become ominous with harder mobs and better loot. |
| Elsewhere | No trigger | Bad Omen persists for 100 minutes with no effect until you enter a village or Trial Chamber. |
The amplifier value is stored in the ominous_bottle_amplifier component (values 0 to 4, displayed as levels I to V). Milk cancels the Bad Omen effect, so keep a bucket handy if you accidentally drink one near a village.
Drinking an ominous bottle gives the player Bad Omen at the bottle's amplifier level (I to V). With Bad Omen active, entering a village triggers a raid, and entering a Trial Chamber activates ominous trial spawners with better loot and harder mobs. The effect lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Ominous bottles drop from ominous vaults inside Trial Chambers, opened with an ominous trial key. The amplifier level of the bottle is random from I to V. They were added in Minecraft 1.21 (Tricky Trials).
Since Minecraft 1.21, Bad Omen level does not directly change raid difficulty because raids were reworked. The amplifier stored in the ominous bottle component (0 to 4, shown as I to V) instead determines the potency of the ominous effect for Trial Chamber events.
Drink milk from a bucket. Milk clears all status effects including Bad Omen, so keep a bucket handy if you accidentally drink an ominous bottle near a village and do not want to start a raid.
