/give @p minecraft:zombie_spawn_eggWhen set, the spawned entity will have this display name.
A spawn egg is a Creative-mode item that places a mob directly into the world when used. This generator builds the /give command for any spawn egg and can add a custom entity name so the spawned mob never despawns.
Spawn eggs are handy for map makers placing specific mobs, server admins building spawn areas, and anyone who wants a quick way to drop in a creature without typing out a full /summon command. Each egg maps to one mob type, and the egg colors in this tool match the real in-game textures.
Add a custom name and the spawned mob keeps it permanently. Named mobs are reliable for permanent installations because they will not vanish when players move away.
1. Search or browse the grid and pick the mob you want a spawn egg for.
2. Add a custom name if you want one. The name shows above the mob and stops natural despawning.
3. Set the target and count to choose who receives the eggs and how many.
4. Copy the command and paste it into your game, then right-click with the egg to place the mob.
Spawn eggs do more than just place a single mob. Here is what each use does:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Right-click a block | Spawns the mob on top of the targeted block |
| Right-click a mob spawner | Changes the spawner to produce the egg's mob type |
| Place in a dispenser | Spawns the mob in front of the dispenser when powered |
| Named egg | Produces a named mob that shows its name and never despawns |
For mobs that have no spawn egg, such as the Ender Dragon, Wither, or Iron Golem, use the Summon Command Generator instead.
Java Edition has a spawn egg for nearly every spawnable mob. Each egg corresponds to one mob type. Spawn eggs are Creative-mode only items, so they cannot be crafted or found in survival, but you can hand any of them out with a /give command.
Yes. Renaming a spawn egg on an anvil makes the spawned mob carry that custom name. With commands you set the entity_data component to include a CustomName. Named mobs display their name above their head and do not despawn naturally.
A handful of entities lack spawn eggs, including the Ender Dragon, Wither, Giant, and Illusioner. Non-mob entities like armor stands, boats, minecarts, and item frames also have no spawn egg. Those must be created with the /summon command instead.
Right-click a block to spawn the mob on top of it, right-click a mob spawner to change what that spawner produces, or load the egg into a dispenser to spawn the mob automatically in front of it.
